About Eating Well, Living Well

Partners

An important goal of “Eating Well, Living Well” is to participate in local and state partnerships in order to increase collaboration among agencies involved in nutrition education.  Partnerships exist on several levels, including:

FUNDING PARTNERS

The “Eating Well, Living Well” project was awarded to the San Diego Community College District, Continuing Education Adult English As A Second Language Program by the Network for a Healthy California, formerly known as California Nutrition Network for Healthy Active Families, in 2002. The United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp Program funded the project. The Mission of the Network for a Healthy California (Network) is to create innovative partnerships that empower low-income Californians to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, physical activity and food security with the goal of preventing obesity and other diet-related chronic diseases. Staff from the Network serve as program managers and advisors for  “Eating Well, Living Well.”

ORGANIZATIONAL PARTNERS

The lessons and materials of “Eating Well, Living Well” were all developed in a partnership between the San Diego Community College District, Continuing Education Adult English as a Second Language Program, which was responsible for all content, and the San Diego County Office of Education, which produced the graphic design and layout of the materials as well as the web site design and maintenance.  The online student lessons were developed in partnership with the Sacramento County Office of Education.

The “Eating Well, Living Well” project is also supported by the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) with CASAS representation on the statewide Advisory Group.  CASAS also assisted in the addition of the six nutrition education content standards as an addendum to the CASAS Competencies, as well as the inclusion of a new nutrition objective to the California Department of Education’s EL Civics project list of objectives.
